The Graduate Diploma in Arts, specialising in Art History and Curatorship is designed for students who have completed a program of undergraduate studies, frequently not in this discipline, and wish to receive graduate qualifications in Art History with a specialisation in museum curatorship. It is a recognised Diploma in vocational training and for further study.

Prerequisites

Applicants for the Graduate Diploma in Arts program should have obtained a Bachelor degree from an approved tertiary education institution, with at least six Credit level grades (60% or better) in courses other than first year courses.

Special admission may be available for some students on the basis of practical experience or a demonstrated contribution to scholarship in a relevant field of study. Normally at least 1 course completed at Distinction level is a prerequisite.

The Graduate Diploma in Arts and the Master of Arts specialising in Art History and Curatorship are integrated to allow students who achieve an average grade of Distinction or higher (min. 70%) in the Graduate Diploma to transfer to the Master program.

Status

Status may be granted for previous study at graduate level relevant to the diploma.

Requirements

Candidates are required to complete courses to the value of 36 units (normally 6 courses) taught in the area of their specialisation consisting of:

  • At least 6 units (1 course) selected from Group 1 courses;
  • At least 6 additional units (1 course) selected from Group 2 courses;
  • A maximum of 24 units from the list of elective courses.
