The Graduate Diploma specialising in English is designed principally for students who have read some English at undegraduate level and wish to undertake further study in the discipline, but consideration will also be given to those who not having read English before nevertheless wish to study some of the great literature in our language and some of the theoretical and critical commentary upon it.
Prerequisites
Applicants for the Graduate Diploma in Arts (specialising in English) should normally have obtained at least a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in English in which most of the grades are at Credit level or better. Consideration will also be given to applicants with a good Bachelors degree or the equivalent, with no English major, but including study in related disciplines such as literature in other languages, History or Philosophy. Such candidates may have to undertake some additional reading in consultation with a staff member. Admission in all cases will be at the discretion of the Convenor of English.
The Graduate Diploma and the Master of Arts degree specialising in English are integrated to allow students who achieve an average grade of Distinction (70%) or better in the Graduate Diploma to transfer to the Masters program.
