Anthropology Honours

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Completion of the Bachelor of Arts pass degree including a minimum of 10 courses to the value of 60 units of anthropology are required to enter the Honours program.  The Anthropology courses are to be made up as follows:
(a) First year courses: Culture and Human Diversity: Introducing Anthropology ANTH1002 and Global and Local ANTH1003 (normally taken in sequence in the first year of study).
(b) Eight later year courses listed under the Anthropology Major.

The Honours Convener may be contacted for advice on choice of courses.

To enter Honours, you must normally have achieved a distinction average over all later-year ANTH courses.

Anthropology IV:
There will be three components:
(i) Two thirteen-week seminar courses, each of two hours a week.

  • History of Anthropological Theory
  • Explanation and Interpretation in the Analysis of Cultures

(ii) A research thesis of some 15,000 words.
(iii) A thesis-writing seminar throughout the year.

Field work is not proposed for anthropology undergraduates.

Combined Honours
Students can undertake combined Honours degrees between Anthropology and various other areas of the Arts Faculty. For further information consult the relevant Honours Conveners.
