This minor is only available to students undertaking the Bachelor of Professional Music Practice degree program.

The Arts and Music Management minor equips students from a music background with the business skills to operate successfully in a modern arts business environment.  Students take a combination of business, marketing and management courses to lay a foundation for their future career destinations, and to complement the music-focused courses which comprise the Professional Music Practice major.

 

Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Arts and Music Management minor will:

• Gain an understanding of the essential business skills required in the sphere of arts management;
• Gain management perspectives transferable to a variety of professional contexts;
• Be able to construct an effective marketing strategy for an arts management context;
• Have the opportunity to build essential project management or entrepreneurship/market development to a more sophisticated level.

Requirements

This minor requires the completion of 24 units, which must include:

 

12 units from the completion of the following compulsory courses:

MGMT3002 - Techniques for Business Project Management (6 units)

MGMT3027 - Entrepreneurship & Innovation (6 units)

 

12 units from the completion of core courses from the following list:

MUSM2313 - Music Professional Practice Project (6 units – see below)

MUSM2267 - Writing for the Music Profession 1 (6 units)

MUSM2272 - Writing for the Music Profession 2 (6 units)

 

MUSM2313 - Music Professional Practice Project may be taken more than once.
