| Course Description |
The aim of this class is to provide students with a general understanding of political structures, ideas and trends, both within Australia and in terms of Australia's international relationships. |
| Learning Outcomes |
On completion of this course, it is expected students will have an overall grasp of the structure and history of the Australian political system, and be able to consider, analyse and critically evaluate key domestic and international structures, ideas, movements and events that influence and shape it. |
| Indicative Assessment | Presentation - 10-minute talk on a political theme (10 per cent), short essay dealing with selected lecture, tutorial and reading content - 500 words (10 per cent), mid-term exam addressing lecture, tutorial and reading content (20 per cent), fully researched and referenced essay analysing a major political phenomenon - 1,500 words (20 per cent), final exam addressing lecture, tutorial and reading content - short answers (20 per cent), essay (20 per cent). |
