ASGS1007 Introduction to the Australian Economy

Course Description

The course aims to provide students with an overview of the mechanisms and processes of the Australian economy. Emphasis is given to current economic issues, institutions and policies including government spending, taxation and deregulation, income distribution, industries, labour market and unemployment, banking and financial services .

 

Learning Outcomes

 

On completion of this course, students will have an overall grasp of the structure and operation of the Australian economy, and be able to consider, analyse and critically evaluate key issues and ideas that influence and shape it.

 

 

Indicative Assessment

1. Mid-semester exam addressing lecture, tutorial and reading content (20%)

2. Fully researched and referenced essay analysing a major economic phenomenon (2,000 words) (40%)

3. Final exam addressing lecture, tutorial and reading content  (30%)

4. Attendance and participation (10%)


Workload Classes will meet twice weekly for two-hour sessions.
