In the post-9/11 era, there is a renewed awareness of, or concern about, the connection between gender and conflict. This course considers the complex connections between gender and security against the backdrop of national identity politics. It brings together the feminist analyses of International Relations, International Law and Peace and Conflict Studies literature, with particular attention to women?s experiences and gender relations. It begins with a gendered critique of nation-building approaches and implications for communities within the state. It then focuses on particular aspects of gender and security. The final section of the course reviews the implementation of gender analysis in the Asia-Pacific context, and their major themes and meanings |
