| Course Description | This course builds on the basic chemical principals introduced in the second year unit environmental chemistry. The chemical concepts underlying key Australian complex environmental problems are examined. Emphasis is given to developing an understanding of the cycling of chemical species in water, soil and air, their sources, reactions, effects and fate as well as the influence of human activity upon these processes. Particular emphasis is given to developing skills in synthesing disparate information from the published literature into conceptual models, a key tool used by practising environmental chemists. Problems associated with devising a sampling program to investigate environmental chemical problems will also be explored. |
