Course Description

This course completes the intensive beginners course in modern standard Chinese, continuing work in the spoken language while putting more emphasis on the written language than in Modern Chinese 1. Students who complete the year successfully will have a good grasp of the fundamentals of written and spoken Chinese.

Indicative Assessment

Two oral tests totaling 20%, tutorial homework: 10%, tutorial weekly test: 10%, mid-semester test: 10%, lecture participation: 10%, final examination: 40%. Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but may expect more rigorous assessment and additional assignment work, tailored to the graduate students’ interests.
