Course Description

This course focuses on multimedia and its delivery on the world wide web. It introduces multimedia as a combination of text, graphics, video, animation and sound for the purposes of information access, storage and dissemination, online art and promotion of art. Topics such as the nature of multimedia and types of multimedia objects, components of a multimedia system, Web authoring, multimedia delivery tools, multimedia applications and societal implications of multimedia, will be covered. Students will have the opportunity to create multimedia applications using XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, animation, sound, video and 3D.

Multimedia can be considered as one of the modern art and communication professions. Within this context we study professional issues such as the construction of multimedia software systems, client focus, and professional ethics. We also consider educational issues: curriculum issues, the ANU experience.

Laboratories (25%); Assignment (35%); Final Exam (40%)
