Course Subject East Asian Studies

Course Description

This course differs from others listed in that it has no fixed syllabus. Rather, the content is to be decided by discussion between students to undertake guided programs of readings in appropriate East Asian language materials, in areas relevant to their interests and projected research. For example, students whose interests are in some period of the history of Imperial China might arrange to take one course involving reading primary source materials, and another in modern Chinese scholarly writings, or perhaps in reading academic Japanese, if they have some background in the language. Someone interested in Japanese Law might take one course in reading formal legal documents, and another involving modern Japanese social science writing.

Indicative Assessment

Assessment is to be based on classroom performance and some written work. Students who are interested in taking courses of this kind should consult the Convenor and appropriate ANU staff or Associates.
