Course Description

The course aims to explain and assess the functioning of the Australian economy. It is intended for students who are seeking a broad understanding of how the economy works. Emphasis will be placed on the related topics of current economic issues, institutions and policies. The approach adopted will emphasise that the present Australian economy needs to be seen in the context of the historical pattern of development and change. While the course deals primarily with economic factors, important social and political circumstances will also be taken into account.

Learning Outcomes On completion of this course students should have an understanding of the concepts and be able to apply the techniques outlined in the course description.
Indicative Assessment

By examination, essay and tutorial participation.

Workload

Two one hour lectures and one tutorial per week plus private study time.
