Course Description

This course provides an overview of the advanced environmental topics related to geoscience, including natural and human-impacted environments, and geohazards, namely volcanic activity, earthquakes, landslide, floods, drought, cyclones and tsunamis. It will also provide material about the nature of the regolith and how it can affect health and agriculture. Emphasis will also be placed on environmental geochemistry and the impact of mining and other human activity on water, and soil quality.

Indicative Assessment

End of semester theory examination (30%), assessment of reports and oral presentation (40%), and excursion reports (30%).

Workload

A maximum of 52 hours of lectures/tutorials and 13 hours of student seminars. One regolith mapping excursion
