Course Description

A study of some of the most fascinating literary texts produced in the United States in the modern era. While the course encourages the close reading of each text, it also attempts to address fundamental issues relating to the study of modern American society, such as race, class, and gender divisions. More broadly still, it seeks to raise and explore basic questions about the study of literature and other cultural productions.

Indicative Assessment

1,000-word essay and 3,000-word essay (100%).

Workload 20 Hours of Lectures and 1 hour tutorial per week.
