Course Description

The course seeks to offer students:

  • a framework for better understanding forest policy processes and outcomes;
  • an overview of current issues in forest policy and practices, and perspectives on them;
  • exposure to analysing and communicating forest policy issues;
  • the opportunity to engage with and learn from forest policy and management practitioners.
Learning Outcomes

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have:

1. an understanding of forest policy processes and outcomes, both internationally and in Australia;
2. an overview of current issues in forest policy and practices, and perspectives on them
3. enhanced skills in analysing and communicating forest policy issues
Indicative Assessment

Assessment will be based on:

  • Oral & written field course report (35%; LO 2, 3)
  • Oral & written forest policy statement (30%; LO 1, 2, 3)
  • Literature review (35%; LO 1, 2, 3)
Workload

5 hours/ week (2 of which are contact) during semester, and a 5-day field course
