Further intensive study of the language, to improve vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, with a view to developing self-expression both in writing and speaking. Introduction to authentic short texts (literary and other) and further listening practice to enable students to deal with more everyday situations as well as to develop and share a critical understanding of French culture and society.

1. to tell others about what you did or will do (and occasionally report on what others have told you); to develop the ability to go beyond simple communication into more complex discussions.
2. to compose short texts such as messages, invitations, instructions, reports, and also of a more fictional type;
3. to understand extracts of news and films;
4. to summarize a newspaper article or a short text;
5. to read short authentic texts (e.g. newspaper articles, extracts from books and novels, etc.) and poetry for enjoyment (not for detailed literary study);
6. to understand aspects of contemporary French societies and to become aware of differences and similarities between your first culture and French cultures; 
7. to understand aspects of language learning methodology

Oral & aural skills: Two listening comprehension tests (25%), one role play (15%) and reading aloud (10%)

Written skills:  Two written tests (40%), Cahier d'apprentissage (5%) and one assignment (5%)

5 hours of classes per week

Introductory French 1 FREN1003 or equivalent demonstrated, previous study of French or active contact with the language.
