Course Description

This course will provide students with a solid working competence in basic Indonesian. After completing the course, students will able to use basic Indonesian appropriately, correctly and with some degree of spontaneity and variation in a number of very commonly occurring situations and interactions. Students will acquire: an active, well-pronounced command of the core vocabulary of Indonesian that is close to 1,000 of the very frequently used words in everyday conversation; and a working command of the most frequent features of Indonesian grammar.

Indicative Assessment

Assessment will be based on: class performance (attendance and participation) (20%), two quick quizzes (10%), mid-program written test (15%), mid-program oral test (20%), final program written test (15%) and final program oral test (20%).

Workload

The course will be taught over a period of one month or approximately 70 contact hours at The Language Centre, Faculty of Language and Literature, Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga, Indonesia. It is expected that the Summer Session course will be run in January and the Winter Session course in June and July.
