Course Description

This course explores a range of features of Bahasa Indonesia. A major topic is the grammatical system; others are the sound system, the place in the language of foreign loan words, and features of colloquial Indonesian. The emphasis is on learning about the language rather than on practicing using it to communicate. However, sessions will often involve some active practice of language features as well.

Indicative Assessment

  Mid-course class test (20%); end-of-semester class test (20%), two assignments (50%), class performance (10%). Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but may expect more rigorous assessment and additional assignment work, tailored to their interests.

Course Classification(s) AdvancedAdvanced courses are designed for students having reached 'first degree' level of assumed knowledge, which provide a deep understanding of contemporary issues; or 'second degree' and higher levels of knowledge; or for transition to research training programs.

Permission of coordinator.
Students will be expected to have completed, or be concurrently enrolled in, Indonesian 2A (INDN6002).
