| Course Description |
The aim of the course is to develop Japanese-English and English-Japanese translation skills, to develop an awareness of the issues which arise from the cultural and linguistic differences between Japanese and English and to familiarise students with available reference and technological resources. Students will translate original Japanese and English texts from a range of fields and genres, such as: literary, economic, political, technical, and journalistic. |
| Learning Outcomes | a) English to Japanese segment: On satisfying the requirements for this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to be able to translate a variety of English materials into readable Japanese on their own with dictionaries. Anyone who is seriously pursuing a translation career should feel confident to accommodate their translation skills to the nature of original texts. |

Unseen Japanese to English Spot Translations (10%), Weekly Japanese to English Partnered Translations (10%), Unseen English to Japanese Translations (10%), Weekly Japanese to English Translation Homework (10%), 2 x Translation Projects (30%), and a Final Take-Home Exam (30%) |
