Course Description

Objectives:

This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the complexities of environmental regulation of the coastal and marine environment. Conceptually, the course is intended to move from the shore to the high seas, beginning with the foundations of coastal law and ending with recent marine pollution disasters.

  • The Public Trust Doctrine
  • Riparian Rights and the Navigational Servitude
  • Public Access to the Shoreline
  • Regulating Development in the Coastal Zone
  • State Regulation of Fisheries and Indigenous Fishing Rights
  • Commonwealth Regulation of Fisheries
  • Admiralty Law
  • Marine Pollution Law
Indicative Assessment

Students must rely on the Approved Assessment which will be posted to the course homepage on the ANU Law website, prior to the commencement of the course.
