| Course Description |
Acoustics of Voice teaches the knowledge and practical expertise necessary to enable students to: measure the acoustics of speech with computers; interpret the results; assess the Linguistic-Phonetic and Forensic-Phonetic significance of their findings. Topics include: Basic Acoustics. Acoustic Theory of Speech Production (Source-Filter Theory). Acoustics of selected speech sounds (including Tones and Intonation). Statistics. Bayes' Theorem. Between-speaker and within-speaker variation and its Forensic Application. Lectures will be supplemented by laboratory work, with students being trained in digital instrumental techniques. |
