Course Description

This course provides an overview of the principles, theories and practices of human resource management (HRM) and the linkage between HRM and business strategy . Specific topics include , the strategic role of HRM, recruitment and selection, learning and career development, employee motivation and reward management, performance appraisal,   diversity management, occupational health and safety, employment relations and International HRM.

Learning Outcomes
  • To identify the key HRM functions and operations.
  • To acquire a solid theoretical and practical perspective on the key human resource management concepts.
  • Identify the linkages between HRM functions and operations and organisational strategies, structures and culture.
  • Develop an awareness of the different contexts (economic, political, legal and social) that impact on the operation of HRM.
  • Strengthen key management competencies in decision-making, group leadership, oral and written communication and persuasion, critical thinking, problem-solving, planning and team work.
Workload

At least three contact hours per week.
