| Course Description |
The course is designed for students who have an interest in the music of J.S. Bach and his sons. It will provide an extensive knowledge of Bach?s instrumental music (keyboard, strings and winds). The course will look at the period of the late 18th century and the influence of C.P.E. Bach and J.C. Bach on the classical music of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. Wide variety of issues such as instruments, ornamentation and tempo, that relate to the performance of all music from the 17th and 18th century will be discussed. |
| Indicative Assessment |
A critical edition of an instrumental work, either by J.S. Bach or by one of his sons, concentrating on ornamentation, articulation and tempo marking, to be prepared as a class presentation/recital (70%) and a short essay on a topic discussed in the course (30%). |
