Later Year Course

Offered By School of Music
Academic Career Undergraduate
Course Subject Music
Offered in First Semester, 2009
Unit Value 3 units
Course Description

Aural 5 and Aural 6 are additional, high-level studies for those students with the ability and interest who wish to continue their aural training further.

These advanced Aural courses extend the student's ability to hear and apply concepts of musical language.

They extend the student's inner hearing, aural awareness and skills in listening and notating music through sight-singing, sight-reading, dictation and aural analysis. They aim to deepen the student's understanding of more complex musical vocabulary and structures, and of advanced harmonic, rhythmic, and melodic concepts. There is a strong emphasis on the application of these concepts to real music.

Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this course, students will have become musically independent, able to:
  1. apply rhythmic, melodic and harmonic tools to enhance and support their study of music;
  2. develop further from this knowledge base; and
  3. add to the pool of musical wisdom that musicians can draw from.
