An examination of some foundational themes in European philosophies, as developed by nineteenth-century thinkers. Textsto be discussed may be selected from the works of Hegel, Marx, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Dilthey, and the Neokantians (e.g. Cohen and Natorp) among others. Students should consult the Philosophy web page for detailed course content. |

One 2,500 word essay, plus other components chosen from shorter written exercises, an end-of-course examination, and tutorial participation. |
