2007 semster 1 : PHILOSOPHY OF BIOLOGY:

Sexual selection - group selection - the selfish gene - explanations in evolution - reductionism - contradictory interpretations of genetics - sociology of genetics

 

Q: Are Species

 

(a) categories fixed by god, or

(b) optimum solutions to evolutionary problems?

 

A: Neither!

 

This course is officially known as PHIL3062 : Advanced Philosophical Topics A. It's suitable for anyone interested in Biology. It's open to any student who has taken at least four philosophy courses, and to other humanities students AND SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING STUDENTS with the permission of the lecturer.
