Course Description

In the course students will learn to critically evaluate the main qualitative and quantitative research tools that are used in applied settings. 

Popular data gathering techniques include:

  • Focus groups
  • Psychometric tests
  • Questionnaire-based surveys
  • Experimental research 

In order to use and evaluate this information effectively it is necessary to have an up-to date understanding of:

  • Content analysis
  • Survey design
  • Data management
  • Issues in psychological test development
  • Structural equation modelling

In order to gain insight into the application of these techniques to research problems encountered in organizational settings some sessions will be taught by professionals who have applied one or more of these techniques in the work place (e.g. ABS staff, market researchers, opinion pollsters, mass communication professionals, professional researchers).
