Course Description

This course will provide an opportunity for people who are working in (or are aiming to work in) HRM to develop a strong understanding of equity and diversity issues from legal, ethical and practical perspectives.

The course will provide students with an overview of equity and diversity management, covering topics such as:

  • Legal compliance
  • Ethical issues
  • Recognising mental health and stress-related problems and taking steps to address them
  • Recognising and addressing poor group functioning
  • Work-life balance in the workplace
  • Bullying
  • Giving feedback to employees.

This course provides a unique opportunity for students to gain a greater understanding of these issues and of how to recognise and deal with them when they arise.

Indicative Assessment Assessment will be determined in consultation with students but typically will consist of a series of essays, lab reports, attendence-based marks and in-class assessment (with a minimum 40% invigilated component).
Course Classification(s) TransitionalTransitional courses are designed for students from a broad range of backgrounds and learning achievements, which provide for the acquisition of generic skills; or an informed understanding of contemporary issues; or fundamental knowledge for transition to Advanced or Specialist courses.
