The Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Science aims to update and broaden the science content knowledge of practising science teachers in high schools and colleges, and others in the field of science education. The program addresses professional learning opportunities for teachers of science, technology and mathematics and aims to help them keep abreast of developments in science and in the communication of science to students.

On completion of the Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Science program, graduates would have gained a rigorous and up-to-date understanding of four areas of science. This understanding would include discipline content knowledge through the use of developed analytical skills and communication technologies. All graduates would gain experience in interpreting, synthesising and critically analysing published literature across a range of discipline areas. Technological and pedagogical skills are developed as an indirect aim of the program due to the online mode of delivery and interaction of all program courses
