| Course Description |
To introduce the techniques of critical thinking and informal logic. To enable students to apply these techniques to other academic disciplines. To develop related skills which are readily and widely transferable both inside and outside university life. |
| Learning Outcomes |
Student skills aimed to be developed will include: – Identifying good and bad reasoning – Evaluating claims and evidence – Understanding arguments and different points of view – Understanding the assumptions one carries into reasoning – Analysing texts – Communicating points of view through speaking and writing – Discussion and dialogue skills – Argumentative writing skills |
| Indicative Assessment | Two class tests (50 per cent), Final Exam (50 per cent). |
