| Course Description |
This course will examine the international relations of Northeast Asia over the last hundred years, from the height of 'old' imperialist rivalry to the post-Soviet world. This region has been critical to global security since the 1930s. The main focus will be on the interactions of China, Japan, Korea, Russia/the USSR, the European powers and the United States through two centuries of upheaval and change. |
| Learning Outcomes | It is expected that students will have a good background knowledge of the international relations of Northeast Asia from the late nineteenth century to the present. It is also expected that students will have some key frameworks for analysing the current international relations of NE Asia. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Short written assignment (10%), Seminar (20%), Two Essays (35% each). |
| Workload | 1.5 hour lecture and 1.5 hour seminar per week. |
