Course Description	This course introduces students to the Australian legal system and the law regulating business activities. Particular focus is given to the law of contract. The course also covers laws relating to particular types of business contracts such as sale of goods, insurance contracts, and consumer credit. Aspects of property law and negligence are also covered.
Learning Outcomes	By the end of this course students should understand The workings of the Australian legal system including law making and dispute resolution processesÍ¾ The legal principles relevant to the formation, administration and termination of business contractsÍ¾ The laws relevant to particular types of business contracts including sales of goods and insurance lawÍ¾ Basic concepts of Australian property lawÍ¾ The law of negligence in a commercial contextÍ¾ And be able to apply legal analysis and legal reasoning particularly to legal problems.
Indicative Assessment	Tutorial Papers (2 papers worth 10% each) 20% Assignment 20% Final Examination 60% The assessment for this course for Summer School, 2010, will be different from the standard semester offerings. Summer School proposed assessment is as follows: Final Examination 100%
Workload	At least three contact hours per week. Private Study. There is a large volume of material to be covered in this course. For most of you this will be a new discipline of study and you may need to spend some time in the first few weeks learning about legal method. You will need to attend lectures and tutorials, read the text and also cases and statutes.
