Course Description	This course provides students with an appreciation of management accounting concepts related to the management functions of decision making, planning and control. The course introduces a range of management accounting tools, including variance analysis, contibution margin analysis, activity analysis, cost of quality analysis, and cost estimation using regression analysis. Students are introduced to the application of management accounting tools for budgetry control pricing and transfer pricing, cost allocation, performance evaluation and quality control. During this course students should: learn important fundamentals and tools of management accounting, including technical aspectscost accounting and behavioural responses to management accounting information; examine links between management accounting and decision making, planning and control; understand the relationship between management accounting and performance management;consider the relationship between management accounting and strategy; and learn to be open to new developments in management accounting knowledge and techniques and how to assess these through cost-benefit analysis.
Learning Outcomes	Specific aims are to: be familiar with a range of management accounting tools, including: variance analysis; contribution margin analysis; activity analysis; costs of quality analysis; life cycle analysis; cost estimation using regression analysis; know how to apply management accounting tools for the following purposes: budgetary control; pricing and transfer pricing; cost allocation; performance evaluation; quality control; appraise the costs and benefits of different conventional and modern costing systems (eg. absorption and variable costing, standard costing, activity-based costing); apply management accounting information to quality decisions, and analyse the relevant costs of quality and trade-offs between them; and appreciate the need for a balance between financial and non-financial information in decision making, control and performance evaluation applications of management accounting.
