Course Description

Students will research the scientific literature on an appropriate topic in chemistry and write a research proposal under the supervision of an academic mentor in the discipline of Chemistry. 

Learning Outcomes

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. express a deeper understanding in a nominated area of specialisation in chemistry
2. demonstrate enhanced scientific writing and oral communication skills in the context of presenting chemistry
3. critically analyse scientific work.
Indicative Assessment

Assessment (negotiated weightings) will be absed on:

  • 3000-word written report (75-90%; LO 1, 2, 3)
  • Oral presentation (10-25%; LO 1, 2, 3)
Workload 130 hours of independent learning.
Eligibility Students must have a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent with a major in chemistry with relevant experience or honours. Applicants with the equivalent of a pass degree may be admitted if they have a high level of relevant academic achievement.  The course is compulsory for all students enrolled in the Master of Chemistry.
Consent Required Approval of the graduate program convener in chemistry.
