DART2001 Models with Attitude: Creating Believable 3D Characters

Course Description

This is an intermediate course in 3D animation using Maya software. It is intended to give the student an overview of basic animation principles and stage-craft techniques as they are applied in 3D animation. Students explore timing, weighting, staging and other animation fundamentals. Stage design and lighting will also be explored in the context of 3D animation production. A theory component explores the production of 3D animation in a new media arts context.

Indicative Assessment

Assessment is by a series of assignments and a final presentation of the major project to the Viva Examination panel.

Workload

All sessions take place in a computer laboratory:

3 hours of seminar / studio practice per week

Students are expected to do at least an extra 4 - 6 hours of independent studio practice each week
