Course Description

Major 2 continues the introduction of students to their discipline in design arts.  Basic skills, techniques and processes, including occupational health and safety instruction, are extended and the engagement with the conceptual underpinnings of the subject area continues.  Instruction is through project-based studio work and a program of studio theory.

Learning Outcomes By the end of this course you should be able to:
  1. Show an understanding of the fundamentals of processes, procedures and technologies
  2. Demonstrate creative exploration of materials
  3. Experiment with concepts
  4. Identify relevant historical and theoretical issues for design practice
  5. Show awareness of OH & S requirements and procedures.
Indicative Assessment Portfolio of studio work (80%) and Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.
Workload 8 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 4 hours per week independent studio practice.
Requisite Statement DESA1001
Preliminary Reading Are specified by each Workshop.
