Course Description

East Asian Studies 1, the East Asian Seminar, is an interdisciplinary course devoted to consideration of methodological issues in the study of East Asia. The specific content will vary from year to year. In general this course will consist of seminars led by ANU academics whose work is focussed on some aspect of East Asian social, political, economic, historical or cultural studies. Students will be responsible for at least two presentations at these seminars.
The aim is to give a general sense of the range of issues and approaches that are involved in research into this complex and dynamic region.

Indicative Assessment

Assessment will be based on one seminar presentation and on either a two-hour examination or an essay of 4,000 words.
