| Course Description |
The course will examine a wide range of literary works from the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. It will also explore some connections between English literature and the European Renaissance, including creative translations and some parallel developments in painting and music. Works by Wyatt, Surrey, Spenser, Shakespeare, Jonson and Milton will provide the focus for study. |
| Learning Outcomes | On satisfying the requirements for this course students will have enhanced analytical and critical skills, broadened their historical understanding and have informed knowledge of some major and representative works from the period. |
| Indicative Assessment |
2,500 word essay (50%) and final examination (50%). |
| Workload |
20 hours of lectures and 1 hour tutorial per week. Normally students could expect to spend 8 hours per week on work related to this course. |
