Course Description	This course will equip students with the skills and attributes required to carry out a research project. This will include how to carryout a literature survey, statistics required for data analysis, experimental methods for data collection, Design of Experiments, data graphing and presentation, structure and approach to paper and report writing.
Learning Outcomes	To provide the course participant with a sufficient basis in preparation for research activities. The course will cover: Scientific research methods and techniques Interpersonal (student-supervisor) communication skills Historical aspects of science, philosophy and logic Economic and social value of research Instructions in LaTeX
Indicative Assessment	Conitnuous assessment (40%); Final exam (60%)
Workload	The content of this course is constructed to be equivalent to a standard 6 units, comprising approximately: 36 formal lectures 12 tutorials 12 hrs of in-class quizzes and homework.
