Course Description

This course explores some advanced spreadsheet functions, tools and shortcuts which are core skills useful in the handling and analysis of financial information.  The course is based around applications drawing upon financial cases and problems.  Instruction involves a hands on computer class.

The base software is Excel.  Students are not required to possess a detailed understanding of financial issues as the case studies are illustrative in nature.  However, a basic knowledge of a modern spreadsheet program is assumed.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course students should have an understanding of and be able to apply the techniques outlined in the course description.

Eligibility

At least an average of 65% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree with at least one year of university level study in quantitative analysis, including basic mathematics and data analysis techniques.

Introductory courses in both Accounting and Finance and basic knowledge of a modern spreadsheet program is assumed.
