Course Description

A study of developments in French intellectual life since about 1958 in the context of social and political issues. The course will cover general cultural issues as well as political ideologies; relevant historical and political background will be included. Students will use French Internet sites and will have a collection of documents.

Indicative Assessment

Oral class presentation (20%), 1,500 word essay (40%) written version of class presentation (20%), panel discussion (15%) and class participation (5%).

Workload

1 lecture and 1 tutorial a week, plus 1 hour workshop/audio-visual session a fortnight, all in French
