Course Description

This course will examine key analytical, empirical and policy issues in economic and financial integration. It will focus in particular on regional and global approaches to integration and examine complementarities and contradictions between them. It examines the welfare effects of integration, looks at the conditions for optimal currency areas, examines measures of integration, assesses policy regimes for open economies, and critically examines some case studies of integration.


The course is built around reading, analysing and critically assessing journal articles and texts.

Indicative Assessment

Mid-term exam 20%, Essay 30%, Final exam 50%
