| Course Description |
In November 1999, the Director-General of the WTO suggested a new round of WTO multilateral trade negotiations. This round was prepared to enable greater participation from developing countries. Funds were committed to the WTO to facilitate participation by poorer nations in the design and implementation of the multilateral trading system. This course aims to help the participants understand the WTO agreements to enable their countries to use the multilateral trading system for development. On completion of the course, participants should be in a position to appreciate the theoretical basis for arguments on gains from trade; understand the assumptions underlying the claims made in the theoretical literature; and chart the course of policy interventions necessary to enable their countries to take advantage of the WTO-initiated trade liberalisation. |
