| Course Description |
This course is a 'hollow log' and the content may vary from year to year. It is designed to accommodate visiting lecturers or to trial a course before introducing it into the full curriculum.
In 2010, the topic will be - International Law & Sustainable Development
The aim of the this course is to consider the notion of sustainable development (with particular emphasis upon its international legal implications) and connected themes of (i) international environmental law and the global South, (ii) the concept of common but differentiated responsibilities, (iii) climate change and developing countries, (iv) the underlying connections between the New International Economic Order and sustainable development, and (v) developmental aspects of ongoing trade and investment debates.
These are vast areas, which a three day course cannot cover in detail. But what the course does intend to do through a series of lectures, tutor-led discussions, mock negotiations, group work, self-directed learning, and group presentations is to highlight many of the key issues and tensions, and to allow students to begin to consider more critically this area of law, policy and practice. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Students must rely on the Approved Assessment which will be posted to the course homepage on the ANU Law website, prior to the commencement of the course. |
