Objectives:

This course is designed primarily for those students who have completed the Treasury course at the appropriate level and wish to continue into the Masters or Graduate Diploma in Government and Commercial Law. Completing this course together with the Treasury course will equip students with the knowledge and skills to enable them to enrol in the other more specialist courses in government and commercial law.

Content:

The following topics will be covered:

• Developing legal skills - problem solving (taken with ILRR students);
• The forms of business entity - sole traders, partnerships and corporations;
• The advantages and disadvantages of the choice of business entity;
• An introduction to the law of contract;
• Formation of contract;
• Contractual terms;
• Termination and breach of contract

Students are required to attend the final day of LAWS8153 Introduction to Legal Reasoning and Research.

Students must rely on the Approved Assessement, which will be posted to the course homepage on the ANU Law website, prior to the commencement of the course.
