| Course Description |
The course aims to cover writing related topics associated with professional musical activities, from writing program notes, grant applications, biographies and CV's and music related articles such as concert reviews. The course will give students hands-on experience overseen by professionals from across the music industry. Activities may include projects and workshops in diverse mediums which may include radio, written media and on-line writing. The course is designed to cover different styles of music including Classical, Jazz and World Music. |
| Learning Outcomes | Students will be able to write professional style musical biography and program notes and will be able to write short reviews using acquired listening skills. Students will be familiar with On-Line writing. Students will have the basic experience of radio and On-Line broadcasting. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Attendance required at 85% of classes for successful completion. Four written assignment (each 25% and 1,500 words): Biography and CV for a fictional musician |
| Workload |
Topics in the course will have practical experience components with some classes being held in locations off-campus as appropriate to the topic chosen. This may for example include a visit to a radio station for professional writing topics related to broadcasting. Intensive workshops will allow for the involvement of guest lecturers drawn from the music profession. |
