Course Description

The development of tuning and temperaments, with specific reference to keyboard instruments, will be discussed within the context of a chronological continuum. It is recommended that Piano-Major students elect to take this course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will form personal responses to the aesthetic and emotional implications of historical temperaments, as well as to the notion of what constitutes 'in tune'.

Indicative Assessment

Pass/Fail, based on attendance and commitment shown by students (minimum attendance: 80%).

Workload

One hour per week.
