| Course Description |
Storytelling is one of the most fundamental ways in which human beings make sense of the world, of their past and their future, their origins and their destinies. This course aims to introduce students to basic concepts and techniques for reading and writing narratives. The course will cover a broad historical range, from foundation myths to science fiction, and a broad range of media, from novels and films to computer games and YouTube. A central component of the course will involve students creating short narrative works in their own chosen medium, providing a platform for later study in English, Creative Writing and New Media Arts. |

1 x Essay of 1000 words about theoretical aspects of narrative (30%), 1 x Portfolio of written exercises of about 1000 words (20%), 1 x Project – longer creative piece (equivalent to 1000 words) (40%), Student participation/written and oral critiques of other students’ work in a workshop format (10%) |
