Course Description

An introduction to selected themes in the philosophy of art: mimesis and representation in Plato and Aristotle, the notion of beauty, realism in 20th century philosophy of Art, the notion of the sublime in postmodern philosophy of art.

Indicative Assessment

Short essay (40%), long essay (45%) and tutorial participation and presentation (15%).

Workload 20 hours of lectures and 12 hours of tutorials

Two Philosophy courses or, with the permission of the Coordinator, two Arts courses.
