This course provides an introduction to modern society, its structures, processes of change and their impact on everyday life. Australian society is discussed in a comparative context with particular reference to social institutions such as the education system, the family, and the political system, and the urban and rural community settings of people's lives. Explanations of trends are examined in the context of classical and modern sociological theories. Contemporary Society may follow or precede The Self and Society.
